I can see where Adorno and Horkheimer are coming from stating this but in my view this definition makes it seem that one cannot move from low to high class or vice verca. This to me doesn't stand as as a true thought as I ask the question how can something become high class if it cannot change from a different class itself? For example:
This is Van Gogh's most famous picture from his earliest era, Not a lot of people know of this piece but it is called "The Potato Eaters". This piece was never sold during his lifetime as a low class artist. After his death and the finding of his artwork he became his famous. His low class artwork became high class and well known by people all over the world. Some of his most famous works are:
Starry Night (Van Gogh)
Sunflowers (Van Gogh)
These works became famous and known as high class after they were given chance to be appreciated. I believe that things considered as low class now should be given the chance to be appreciated, because after that time and that appreciation, they may just become high class, just like Van Goghs work. We all have to start somewhere and in the creating of culture and most of us will start at the bottom, but in due time we may just be considered high class.
